The Human Bean, Albany, Oregon, 27 March 2008
A new coffee shack, just opened. Very impressive architecture (note the light sconces).
The mocha had a good balance of coffee, chocolate and sweetness, with a strong milky taste.
Coffee Shacks of the Mid-Willamette Valley
We're Kathe and John Burt, and for the past few years we've been collecting photos and memorabilia from coffee shacks, a distinctive feature of the Pacific Northwest. We photograph the shacks, ask for coffee cards and have a mocha. Always a mocha, so we can compare and review them (if we post pictures without a review, it's probably because the mocha wasn't very good).
We do this wherever we go, although since we don't travel much, they're mainly from the mid-Willamette Valley communities around Corvallis.
We've been saying all along that one day we'll make them into a coffee table book, but since we recently started photographing coffee shacks with our digital phone camera, it occurred to us that we could start a blog right away.
Before too much longer, we'll have a scanner, too, and will be able to add photos we took with our optical camera.
For now, we hope that you will enjoy the posts we make here.
